Day 2 – Great Barrier Reef (L)
Head out to the Central Section of the Great Barrier Reef with Andrenalin Snorkel & Dive, Townsville’s longest-running diving and snorkelling providers. Visit one of the pristine reefs in this section, chosen on the day based on great coral cover and fish life. See the spectacular marine life whilst being immersed in tropical crystal-clear water.
Their 14-metre custom built vessel has fully shaded areas, sun deck, stabilises, toilet and shower, plus easy access in and out of the water. All snorkelling equipment is provided, and demonstrations and instructions on techniques are included.
From 01 July, morning and afternoon tea and a buffet-style cold lunch will provided on the cruise, plus cold water, cordial, tea and coffee are available throughout the trip.
If diving is more your thing, you can upgrade your ticket. For just an additional $90pp, certified divers can enjoy two dives, where you can choose to either dive with an experienced guide or explore the reef on your own.
Back on the mainland, enjoy dinner at the resort. With an assortment of restaurants, bars and cafes, there is sure to be something to tempt your tastebuds.
Day 3 – Townsville
Hire a bike from your hotel, and take a ride around Townsville. For the keen cyclists, you may like to power up Castle Hill, where you will be rewarded with spectacular 360° views of the city, or follow the Street Art trail and see the vibrant displays and murals around the streets, lanes and alleyways.
The Museum of Tropical Queensland is walking distance from your hotel, and will be reopening in May 2021. It houses several exhibitions and displays exploring World Heritage listed rainforest and reefs to the story of the shipwrecked HMS Pandora, the ship sent to capture the Bounty mutineers.
Spend the afternoon back at the resort relaxing by the pool, or head to The Brewery, located in Townsville’s original Post & Telegraph Office. The family-owned micro-brewery offers a range of unique and original craft beer, as well as a choice of the Tavern or Smokehouse Restaurant for a hearty pub meal.
Day 4 – Magnetic Island (L)
Join SeaLink North Queensland for your ferry transfer to Magnetic Island. Take your pick of up to 18 services a day, with the trip taking just 20 minutes. Once on the island you can collect your hire car for a day of sightseeing at your own pace. Choose to stop at one of the many beaches or bays for a dip.
Once you have seen some of the sights, make your way back to Nelly Bay where you will be collected by a private RIB (rigid inflatable boat) and transferred to one of the secluded beaches on the eastern side of the island.
Relax on your picnic rug, with umbrella and cushions and enjoy a delicious gourmet picnic featuring local seafood and antipasto platters, and a choice of a bottle of wine or 6 pack of beer. With two hours on the beach, all to yourselves, you can play some games (beach cricket or petanque), sunbake, or go snorkelling - the choice is yours.
At the end of your picnic you will be collected and transferred back to collect your hire car and continue sightseeing on the island. The last ferry back to the mainland is around 10pm, so you could head to Horseshoe Bay and grab dinner from one of the restaurants or takeaway shops.
Day 5 – Townsville to Orpheus Island (D)
There is still time to take in any of the last minute sights that you may have missed in Townsville or want to head back to, before making your way to Townsville Airport for your 30 minute helicopter transfer to Orpheus Island.
The Orpheus Island Lodge only has 14 luxury rooms accommodating just 28 people, so there are plenty of opportunities to relax on this secluded, unspoilt tropical paradise. Relax in the 25m infinity pool that mirrors the Coral Sea with a pre-dinner drink, before heading to either the alfresco-style dining area or restaurant for dinner.
